Coaching notes
Dominate The Diamond series designed to inject energy into ground-ball work: recover from bobbles, chase unpredictable hops, race the runner home-to-first, and rapid partner short hops.
Objectives
Improve error recovery, foot movement in all directions, internal clock for throwing under pressure, and short-hop technique.
Coaching cues
Bare-hand recover after bobble then finish the play; move feet to the hop; get the ball to first faster than the runner's home-to-first time; stay low and attack through short hops with right-left timing.
Common errors
Picking the bobbled ball with the glove again; standing still waiting for hops; slow internal clock; fielding high or stopping on short hops.
Steps
- 1. Bobble and Recover: roll grounder, simulate bobble, bare-hand recover, throw to first
- 2. Football Frenzy: roll or fungo unpredictable football/Nerf hops in all directions
- 3. Beat the Clock: time fastest runner home-to-first; infielders must beat that time
- 4. Partner Rollouts: short-hop tosses at 15 ft with three variations (catch, create hop, attack through)
