High Tee Back-Pocket Coil Drill

Coaching notes

Tee set high so the hitter must coil into the back hip and maintain posture (butt back, chest over) to make solid contact.

Objectives

Improve lower-body load, posture, and the feeling of staying connected through the swing.

Coaching cues

Push the hips back; feel the back pocket; keep the chest over the plate; stay connected.

Common errors

Standing up out of the coil; lunging; losing the back-hip load.

Steps

  1. 1. Set tee high (above normal belt height)
  2. 2. Load into the back hip with posture
  3. 3. Swing while maintaining the coil feel
  4. 4. Repeat focusing on back-pocket contact
