Player throws varied hops against a wall and practices attacking short hops, recovering from bad hops with a drop step, and turning the ball into a throw.
Objectives
Eliminate passive glove work and build confidence on unpredictable hops.
Coaching cues
Attack the hop; get the body behind the ball; quick exchange; stay low.
Common errors
Waiting on the hop; upright posture; slow transfer.
Setup
Wall and one baseball; 8–15 feet of space.
Steps
- 1. Throw short hops at the wall
- 2. Attack each hop with body behind the glove
- 3. On bad hops use a drop step and recover
- 4. Exchange and simulate a throw
- 5. Increase speed and angle variety
