Coaching notes

Bill Ripken demonstrates a simple, high-rep wall-ball routine that isolates glove presentation and one-handed fielding so players can train alone anytime.

Objectives

Develop soft hands, glove-out-front presentation, low athletic posture, and one-handed comfort on ground balls.

Coaching cues

Glove out in front; use one hand only; stay low and wide; eyes into the glove; sets of 5 then rest.

Common errors

Using the free hand as a crutch; standing upright; glove too close to the body.

Steps

  1. 1. Kneel facing a wall a few feet away
  2. 2. Throw ball off wall
  3. 3. Field with glove extended out front one-handed
  4. 4. Progress to low wide athletic stance
  5. 5. Accumulate 25-30 quality reps
