Trosky Dive and Recover Drill

Teaches recovering from a dive directly into the same athletic launch/slot posture used on routine ground balls so the throw remains accurate and powerful.

Duration:
About 8 min

Coaching notes

Players practice diving (or sprawling from knees), then immediately shuffle into the identical launch posture used on regular grounders. Emphasizes loose, athletic actions that look easy to the eye.

Objectives

Eliminate the common post-dive posture collapse that ruins the throw; make diving plays look routine.

Coaching cues

Dive relaxed athletic; get up into exact same launch posture; loose and quick; eyes of the watcher; start slow on knees then progress.

Common errors

Rising into a rigid or off-balance posture; rushing and losing balance; stiff actions after the dive.

Steps

  1. 1. Knees athletic posture, sprawl/dive on command
  2. 2. Immediately shuffle into launch/slot posture
  3. 3. Progress to standing full dives with recovery throw
