Coaching notes

Defenders practice the proper approach angles, glove presentation, and verbal communication needed to end a rundown in one or two throws maximum.

Objectives

Install clean rundown fundamentals, improve communication, and reduce the number of throws required for an out.

Coaching cues

Close the gap aggressively; hold the ball high and visible; call the runner’s direction; tag or throw decisively.

Common errors

Chasing without closing; multiple throws; poor verbal calls; leaving a base open.
