How To Train Like a Big League Infielder (Kai Correa Mini-Glove & Feeds)
SF Giants-style progression from mini-glove short hops on knees through game-glove work, trajectory decisions, underhand feeds, and double-play turns.
- Duration:
- About 15 min
Coaching notes
Bench coach Kai Correa works Austin Slater and Kean Wong through hand activation with pliable mini gloves (one- and two-handed short hops), posture/hip-hinge cues, hop-type decision making, momentum-based feeds (glove flip vs loft vs firm), and quick DP turns with small steps.
Objectives
Activate soft hands out in front, improve hop recognition and one- vs two-hand decisions, refine underhand feeds and DP exchange efficiency.
Coaching cues
Catch out in front of the window; hip hinge for posture; bury eyes in the leather; secure catch first then exchange; smallest move possible on feeds; smaller steps for faster turns.
Common errors
Letting the ball travel too deep; large forward/backward shifts; crossing body on feeds; rising or losing posture after the hop.
Steps
- 1. Knees mini-glove rapid-fire short hops (1-hand then 2-hand mix)
- 2. Game glove on knees 45° swivel, mirror hop angle
- 3. Standing hop decision (underneath 2-hand, farther 1-hand)
- 4. Feeds by distance/momentum (flip / loft / firm)
- 5. DP turns: stutter to bag, secure, small-step exchange
