Play 1 fake throw to second; Play 2 get the out at second; Play 3 throw straight to third; Play 4 read play by middle infielders; bonus fake to third throw to first.
Objectives
Give the defense clear, practiced options vs first-and-third; stop the runner at third from scoring while managing the runner at first.
Coaching cues
Catcher controls the play; middle infielders read the runner at third; communicate pre-pitch; protect the run first.
Common errors
Confusion on who cuts; throwing through without a plan; failing to freeze the runner at third.
Steps
- 1. Install Play 1 (fake to 2B)
- 2. Install Play 2 (throw through to 2B)
- 3. Install Play 3 (throw to 3B)
- 4. Install Play 4 (read/cut)
- 5. Add bonus fake
- 6. Live reps with runners
