Coaching notes

Middle infielders practice the various feed types into second and the subsequent pivot/turn, stressing getting the back foot down first and driving toward first base.

Objectives

Improve double-play pivot speed, footwork clarity, and throw accuracy under time pressure.

Coaching cues

Lead with the back foot; get the ball out cleanly; explode toward first; stay low through the turn.

Common errors

Leading with the front foot; high center of gravity; rushing the exchange and throwing off-line.

Steps

  1. 1. Set up feeds from shortstop or third
  2. 2. Receive and pivot with back-foot lead
  3. 3. Exchange and throw to first
  4. 4. Repeat from multiple angles
