Catalyst Infield Triangle Drill for Fielding Position

Part-practice progression using three baseballs as contact points (right foot, left foot, glove) to groove correct athletic fielding position, alignment, and approach.

Coaching notes

Catalyst Sports teaches the triangle setup (apex ball left-eye aligned), body-position checklist (wide feet, chest on thighs, flat back, hands out front of bill of cap), final approach, stutter step for timing, and pre-pitch hop into the position.

Objectives

Install correct fielding position fundamentals so players consistently get under the ball with proper give and eye alignment.

Coaching cues

Left-eye alignment for glove-side give; feet wider than shoulders; chest down on thighs; flat back; hands out in front of bill of cap; nipples over toes for depth; glove thumb up then out.

Common errors

Right-eye alignment (ball kicks away); locked-out glove; rising chest; narrow feet; hands under the body.

Steps

  1. 1. Place three balls forming triangle (apex left for left-eye)
  2. 2. Body checklist: width, chest, back, hands, eye alignment
  3. 3. Final approach: large step back, align, stutter for rhythm
  4. 4. Pre-pitch hop into position then field
