Northern Baseball Training five-drill ladder progression that develops timing into the fielding position and clean transitions in limited space.

Objectives

Improve approach timing, lateral quickness, fielding posture and double-play footwork.

Coaching cues

Knees over toes, butt back, flat back, glove out front; right-left plant for approach; stay low throughout.

Common errors

Knees caving, glove under the body, stopping the feet, rising posture.

Steps

  1. 1. Approach: right-left plant up the ladder, field on left plant
  2. 2. Side shuffle into fielding position between boxes
  3. 3. Quick feet in/out to ready
  4. 4. Forehand/backhand shuffle transitions
  5. 5. Double-play footwork variations through boxes
