Coaching notes

Northern Baseball Training series of 10 progressive at-home infield drills starting from knees/standing short hops and backhands, progressing through wall work (barehand then glove then pancake) and finishing with four-cone fielding-to-throw transitions and timed foot-plant pickups.

Objectives

Develop soft hands, short-hop confidence, proper right-left approach, and clean field-to-throw transitions usable in any space.

Coaching cues

Come around the ball for momentum to first; plant right then left as you pick; stay short through the ball—no swipe; glove out front, butt back, flat back; right foot to left, left to target.

Common errors

Swiping at the ball, popping up after the catch, glove under the body, stopping the feet, poor alignment of hips/shoulders to target.

  2. 2. Backhands same progression
  3. 3. Wall short hops barehand then glove
  4. 4. Pancake glove wall work
  5. 5. Four-cone square: fielding posture to throw around the box
