Troy Snitker Alternating Angle Drill – Open-Side Attack

Machine moved to an extreme open angle; hitter works opposite-field and pull-side directions on alternating pitches to improve balance and direction.

Skill:
directional hitting, balance
Equipment:
Bat / tee
Duration:
About 7 min
Setting:
Indoor
Players:
Solo

Coaching notes

Feeds come from an exaggerated open angle. Hitter alternates driving the ball the other way and then pulling, training directional control under unusual attack angles.

Objectives

Improve balance and directional control; help hitters who struggle to pull correctly or stay balanced against open-side angles.

Coaching cues

Work the opposite field on the first pitch, pull on the next; maintain direction even when the angle is extreme; randomize after block practice.

Common errors

Losing direction; pulling everything or going the other way on every pitch; falling off balance.

Steps

  1. 1. Open Angle Setup — Move machine outside normal release to the open side.
  2. 2. Alternate Direction — Drive opposite field then pull on successive pitches.
  3. 3. Randomize — Use fine dial without hitter knowledge to add reaction demand.
