Coaching notes
Outfielders work a structured progression of ground balls from different angles (at them, glove side, backhand) focusing on getting around the ball, proper fielding posture, and seamless transition into a crow-hop throw.
Objectives
Improve outfield ground-ball technique and angles; develop consistent crow-hop after fielding; build confidence charging the ball.
Coaching cues
Get around the ball; Stay low through the field; Right-left into crow-hop; Momentum through the throw; Eyes up after the catch.
Common errors
Fielding flat-footed; Poor angle to the ball; Stopping momentum before the throw; One-handing routine grounders.
Steps
- 1. Routine ground balls directly at the fielder
- 2. Glove-side and backhand angles
- 3. Charge and crow-hop into throw
- 4. Vary speed and add do-or-die intensity
