Outfield Catching-the-Sun Drill

Progression that teaches outfielders how to locate and track fly balls when the sun is in their eyes.

Uses positioning, glove positioning and head movement so players learn to find the ball quickly even under difficult lighting.

Objectives

Build confidence and technique for sun-field plays.

Coaching cues

Use the glove or hand as a visor early; keep the head still once the ball is found; get behind the ball.

Common errors

Panicking; losing the ball completely; turning the wrong way.
