Launch Angle Ladder Barrel-Control Drill

Hitting drill that trains precise ball flight and barrel control by intentionally producing a sequence of launch angles from low line drives to higher trajectories.

Skill:
barrel_control, launch_angle
Equipment:
Bat / tee
Duration:
About 10 min
Setting:
Indoor or outdoor
Players:
Solo

Coaching notes

Hitter aims for sequential launch angles (0°, 10°, 20°, 30° and back down) while keeping the barrel on plane. Builds awareness of contact point, posture, and direction without altering the game swing.

Objectives

Master barrel control across launch angles; improve line-drive consistency; develop feel for contact depth and posture.

Coaching cues

Match plane cleanly; control the barrel; stay on plane; adjust contact depth intentionally.

Common errors

Trying to lift; losing plane; inconsistent contact point; over-swinging for higher angles.

Steps

  1. 1. Start with low line-drive target (0-10°)
  2. 2. Progress up the ladder to 20-30°
  3. 3. Return down the ladder
  4. 4. Focus on clean plane and contact quality
  5. 5. Mix with game-speed swings
