11U–12U Hitting All positions Beginner

Kershaw Youth Hitting Drill (Stride Control)

Feet-together start that mimics Kershaw’s leg lift to train controlled stride length, back-hip load, and balance into the launch position for youth hitters.

Equipment:
Bat / tee
Duration:
About 8 min
Setting:
Indoor or outdoor
Players:
Solo

Coaching notes

Hitter begins with feet close together, lifts the lead leg like a pitcher, lands softly without over-striding, and rides the movement into rotation. Builds posterior-chain load and timing.

Objectives

Control stride length and direction; load the back hip and posterior chain; maintain balance through the forward move; produce consistent gap-to-gap line drives.

Coaching cues

Feet close; lift and ride the lead leg; load the back hip; stay balanced; transfer weight smoothly into rotation.

Common errors

Over- or under-striding; loss of balance forward or backward; early extension; timing the flip incorrectly.

Steps

  1. 1. Start with feet close together
  2. 2. Lift lead leg (Kershaw style) and land softly
  3. 3. Ride the movement into rotation and swing
  4. 4. Seek line drives gap-to-gap
