Keep It Fair Hitting Drill
Extreme-inside flip that forces rapid pelvis/torso rotation and space-clearing so the hitter can pull the ball with pure fair-ball flight.
- Equipment:
- Bat / tee
- Duration:
- About 8 min
- Setting:
- Indoor or outdoor
- Players:
- Partner
Coaching notes
Soft-toss or flip aimed at the front hip. Hitter must clear the hips and rotate the torso hard enough to keep the ball fair to the pull side with true backspin and ~20–25° launch.
Objectives
Train aggressive rotation and space-clearing for inside pitches; produce pure pull-side ball flight instead of push or roll-over contact.
Coaching cues
Clear the hips; rotate the torso hard; stay inside the ball; seek true backspin line drives to the pull-side foul line; keep it fair.
Common errors
Push pattern (hands ahead of torso); roll-overs; inconsistent contact quality resulting in weak fly balls to the opposite field.
Steps
- 1. Normal setup; flipper aims at front hip
- 2. Hitter clears space with hips and rotates torso aggressively
- 3. Drive the ball fair to the pull side with backspin
- 4. Repeat, emphasizing pure flight
