Johnny Reina Rotate-Faster Offset Open Hitting Drill

Offset-open stance drill designed to force faster hip and torso rotation while keeping the front shoulder closed longer for better adjustability and power.

Duration:
About 10 min

Coaching notes

Hitter sets up in an exaggerated offset-open stance, then works the load and rotation so the lower half fires aggressively while the upper body stays connected and directed up the middle or opposite field.

Objectives

Increase rotational speed; improve separation and adjustability; reduce early front-shoulder opening.

Coaching cues

Load into the back hip; fire the lower half first; keep the front shoulder closed as long as possible; drive the barrel through the middle.

Common errors

Spinning the front shoulder early; sliding instead of rotating; casting the hands.

Steps

  1. 1. Set up in an exaggerated offset-open stance.
  2. 2. Load into the back hip while keeping the front shoulder closed.
  3. 3. Fire the lower half aggressively and rotate through the middle of the field.
  4. 4. Finish balanced with the barrel staying through the zone.
