Coaching notes
Cones placed at 45° left, 90° straight back, and 45° right. Athlete starts at the front cone, opens the hips on command, and takes the ball over the shoulder on a soft lob. Works both directions and can expand inward for shorter routes.
Objectives
Clean first-step drop and hip turn; track and catch over the shoulder in limited space; build confidence going back.
Coaching cues
Open the hips; get over the cone; stay under control; catch the lob over the shoulder; work both glove and throwing side.
Common errors
False steps; spinning instead of opening the hips; early glove flash; loss of balance on the turn.
Steps
- 1. Place cones at 45° L, 90° back, 45° R
- 2. Athlete starts on front cone in ready position
- 3. Coach calls direction; athlete opens hips and sprints over the cone
- 4. Coach lobs the ball over the shoulder for the catch
- 5. Reset and work both sides
