Hook ‘Em Hitting Drill
Crossed-lead-leg start that trains even pelvic/torso coil, controlled aggressive forward move, and proper hip-shoulder separation timing.
- Equipment:
- Bat / tee
- Duration:
- About 8 min
- Setting:
- Indoor or outdoor
- Players:
- Solo
Coaching notes
Hitter starts with lead leg crossed over rear leg, slight backside hinge, then picks up the lead foot and rides the stride out while staying coiled. Produces gap-to-gap line drives and blends linear and rotational components.
Objectives
Create even coil of pelvis and torso; time hip-shoulder separation; develop controlled yet aggressive forward move and balance through contact.
Coaching cues
Cross lead over rear; hinge backside; pick up and ride the stride while staying coiled; line drives gap-to-gap; keep posture consistent.
Common errors
Over- or under-striding; early extension of the back hip; loss of posture (too high or too low attack angle).
Steps
- 1. Set up normal stance then cross lead leg over rear
- 2. Slight hinge on backside
- 3. Pick up lead foot, ride it out while coiled, and swing
- 4. Seek gap-to-gap line drives
