Coaching notes

Hitter faces a tee representing the off-speed location while a coach delivers a front-toss fastball. Player must recognize and either stay on the tee or attack the toss.

Objectives

Train pitch recognition, adjustability, and the ability to stay back on off-speed while still being able to drive fastballs.

Coaching cues

Sit early; recognize out of the hand; stay back on the tee look; explode on the fastball toss.

Common errors

Cheating forward on every pitch; swinging at the tee when the toss is a strike; losing balance.

Setup

Tee set for off-speed location; front-toss distance; protective net.

Steps

  1. 1. Set tee for off-speed location
  2. 2. Hitter loads as if facing an off-speed pitch
  3. 3. Coach delivers front-toss fastball or leaves the tee
  4. 4. Hitter adjusts and swings accordingly
  5. 5. Repeat with mixed timing
