Connection Ball Forearm Drill to Fix Fly-Out

Simple tool-assisted drill that keeps the throwing arm connected and prevents forearm lag or fly-out during the delivery.

Skill:
arm action
Equipment:
Ball only
Duration:
About 8 min
Setting:
Indoor or outdoor
Players:
Solo

Coaching notes

Pitcher places an inflated connection ball between the forearm and bicep, then performs rocker or full-delivery throws while keeping the ball in place until release. The ball forces a short, connected arm path.

Objectives

Eliminate arm lag and fly-out, promote early arm acceleration, and reinforce proper scap-load sequencing.

Coaching cues

Keep the arm inside 90 degrees; stay connected; feel the ball force a short path; release the ball with the pitch.

Common errors

Letting the ball drop early; over-extending the elbow; losing posture to hold the ball.

Setup

Inflated connection or similar small ball; open throwing space.

Steps

  1. 1. Place connection ball between forearm and bicep
  2. 2. Set in rocker or stretch position
  3. 3. Execute delivery while keeping ball secured
  4. 4. Allow ball to release with the pitch
  5. 5. Repeat focusing on connection feel
