Antonelli Turning the Barrel PVC/Noodle Drill

Antonelli Baseball drill using a PVC pipe or noodle to teach a tight, deep turn of the barrel instead of a push-forward path.

Duration:
About 8 min

Coaching notes

Hitter uses a choked PVC or works against a noodle held in the deep zone. The goal is to turn the barrel back and up so the end of the implement stays inside and works upward, creating the tight hand turn that produces depth and power.

Objectives

Teach a tight deep barrel turn; eliminate the push-forward path; improve hand path and connection.

Coaching cues

Turn the barrel back and up; keep the end of the PVC/noodle inside; feel the tight hand turn; do not push forward into the implement.

Common errors

Pushing the hands forward; failing to turn the barrel; hitting the bag or noodle because the path is too linear.

Steps

  1. 1. Choke up on a PVC or work against a deep noodle
  2. 2. Coil and turn the barrel back against the implement
  3. 3. Feel the tight turn and upward path
  4. 4. Transfer the feel into regular swings
