Coaching notes
A complete outfield practice segment that moves from foundational footwork (ready position, chin-tuck over-shoulder) through 8-cone first-step work, square/rectangle cone patterns, ground-ball progression (direct / glove / backhand with pro-step), four-ball competitive circuit, fungo-bat false-step eliminator, trident-angle fly balls, priority communication calls, and line-drive freeze/backup work. Competitive elements (stopwatch) keep intensity high.
Objectives
Improve first-step quickness, efficient routes, communication hierarchy, and confidence on balls hit at every angle and speed.
Coaching cues
Tuck the chin and turn for over-the-shoulder balls; open glove-side for straight-back balls; use a pro-step through ground balls; glove stays down until the last second; call priority early and loud.
Common errors
False steps on balls over the head; glove up too early reducing range; failing to open the hips fully on the first step; late or unclear communication.
